The Sertaneja Missionary Listening and the III Consultation for the Sertão of the Evangelization Decade were created to mobilize, encourage and provide tools, workers and leaders who are on the front line of the church in the northeastern hinterland.
 

The Sertão Northeast today is one of the great missionary challenges of the Brazilian church, according to current data, today there are about 6 thousand communities in the sertão without the presence of the church, and in this region are found 3 of the 9 least evangelized segments in Brazil (sertanejos, quilombolas and the poorest).
